Description

Officially Licensed USMC VMF-312 Checkerboards Patch — Marine Fighter Squadron 312 WWII/Korea-Era Embroidered Patch

The Checkerboards — one of the Marine Corps’ most decorated fighter squadrons from Okinawa to Korea.

VMF-312 “Checkerboards” was commissioned on December 1, 1942, at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. The squadron deployed to the Pacific theater and flew F4U Corsairs during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, conducting close air support and air superiority missions. VMF-312 pilots compiled an impressive aerial combat record while providing ground attack support for Marine infantry across the island. The Checkerboards continued service through the Korean War, flying combat missions from carriers and shore bases. Their distinctive black-and-white checkerboard insignia became one of the most recognized markings in Marine fighter aviation.

Perfect For:
VMF-312 Checkerboards veterans, WWII Pacific theater historians, F4U Corsair enthusiasts, Korean War Marine aviation fans, Okinawa campaign collectors, and USMC legacy fighter squadron patch collectors.
