VMA-331 “Bumblebees” was a Marine attack squadron that flew A-4 Skyhawks and later AV-8B Harrier IIs. The Bumblebees were based at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, and deployed for Operation Desert Storm in 1991, flying combat missions during the liberation of Kuwait. The Bumblebees’ combat record in the Gulf War added to the squadron’s legacy of providing responsive close air support for Marine ground forces.
