Description
Officially Licensed USMC MACS-4 White Snakes ATC Co L Patches — Controlling the Airspace Since ’44
Every aircraft that lands, takes off, or crosses the zone — MACS-4 has eyes on it.
Marine Air Control Squadron 4 (MACS-4) “White Snakes” is one of the Marine Corps’ premier air control units, based at MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, under Marine Air Control Group 18 (MACG-18) and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Tracing its lineage back to Air Warning Squadron 13, commissioned in May 1944 at Cherry Point, MACS-4 provides combat-ready air direction, control, and surveillance capabilities — managing radar, non-radar, and tower air traffic control services for friendly aircraft in any weather. Company L (Co L) handles the Air Traffic Control (ATC) mission, ensuring safe and efficient aircraft operations at forward operating bases. MACS-4’s combat history spans Vietnam — where they were the first unit to employ the Marine Tactical Data System on Monkey Mountain near Da Nang, controlling or assisting 472,146 aircraft — through Operation Enduring Freedom. They are the invisible backbone of Marine aviation: if aircraft are in the air, MACS-4 is making sure they don’t run into each other.
Perfect For: MACS-4 White Snakes Marines and veterans, ATC Company L personnel, MACG-18 and 1st MAW members, Okinawa-based Marines, Marine air traffic controllers, MACCS community, and anyone who has ever heard “cleared to land” from a White Snake.
