Description
Marine Aircraft Group MAG-29 War Eagles — USMC Embroidered Patch
War Eagles Rising
The War Eagles of MAG-29 have carried Marines into every major conflict since the group’s creation, from the sands of Desert Storm to the mountains of Afghanistan and the streets of Iraq. If you’ve served with MAG-29, you know the sound of rotors spinning up means somebody’s about to have a very bad day. This patch represents that legacy of lethal rotary wing combat power.
Commissioned on 1 May 1972 at MCAS New River from Marine Helicopter Training Group 40, MAG-29 quickly grew into one of the Marine Corps’ premier rotary wing combat groups. The group deployed for Desert Shield and Desert Storm, supported UN operations in Somalia, Operation Deny Flight and Provide Promise in the former Yugoslavia, and Operation Restore Democracy in Haiti. After September 11th, HMM-365(REIN) was among the first troops into Afghanistan. In January 2003, MAG-29(REIN) deployed as the 3rd Rotary Wing Group for 3rd MAW in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Now based at MCAS New River with CH-53E Super Stallions and AH-1Z/UH-1Y light attack helicopters, the War Eagles continue to fly under the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
Perfect For:
MAG-29 veterans and active duty Marines, CH-53E and AH-1Z/UH-1Y community members, 2nd MAW personnel, MCAS New River community, and rotary wing aviation collectors.
