VP-40 operates the Boeing P-8A Poseidon, the Navy’s premier multi-mission maritime aircraft, conducting anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence gathering, and search and rescue across the world’s oceans. The P-8A replaced the venerable P-3C Orion, bringing advanced sensors, networking capability, and global reach to the maritime patrol community. The Fighting Marlins maintain a relentless deployment tempo, rotating through the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, and beyond to keep adversary submarines and surface threats in check.
