Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VF-33 Tarsiers Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VF-33 Tarsiers — named after a fierce little primate with giant eyes, and the squadron that took those eyes into combat from Korea to the Gulf of Sidra. Meet “Minky.”
VF-33 was established on 11 October 1948 at NAS Oceana, Virginia, initially equipped with the F4U-4 Corsair. Assigned to Carrier Air Group Three, the Tarsiers deployed aboard USS Leyte to the Mediterranean and then into combat in the Korean War from September 1950 to February 1951, earning the Navy Unit Citation. Over the decades, VF-33 transitioned through the F9F-6 Cougar, FJ-3 Fury, F11F Tiger, F-8 Crusader, and F-4 Phantom II, deploying aboard USS Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Operation Sea Orbit’s historic all-nuclear around-the-world cruise. In Vietnam, a VF-33 Phantom crew scored the first MiG kill by an East Coast fighter squadron on 10 July 1968, while the unit dropped over 3 million pounds of ordnance in 4,000 combat hours. VF-33 flew under the Tarsiers name — with their beloved mascot “Minky” — until transitioning to the F-14A Tomcat in 1981. The squadron was disestablished on 1 October 1993.
