Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 12 (VAW-12) Bats was a U.S. Navy squadron that operated in the carrier airborne early warning role, flying aircraft like the E-1 Tracer and E-2 Hawkeye to provide fleet air defense coordination and airborne early warning coverage for carrier battle groups. VAW-12 served during some of the Cold War’s most critical decades, ensuring that carrier strike groups had the radar coverage and command-and-control capability needed to detect and respond to threats across vast stretches of ocean. This “old school” patch was recreated specifically for the squadron’s reunion, bringing back the original design that VAW-12 veterans wore during their years of service.
