Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-87 Golden Warriors Stickers — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-87 Golden Warriors — the first fleet squadron to fly the A-7B Corsair II, and the squadron whose pilot scored the Navy’s first air-to-air kill since the Gulf War by downing a Syrian Su-22 over Raqqa in 2017. From Vietnam to the War on Terror, the War Party never stops fighting.
VA-87 was established on 1 February 1968 at NAS Cecil Field, Florida, as the first Navy fleet squadron to operate the LTV A-7B Corsair II. By March 1969, the Golden Warriors were flying combat missions from USS Ticonderoga over South Vietnam. The squadron joined Carrier Air Wing Six in 1970 and made twelve deployments aboard three carriers including USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and USS America. In October 1983, VA-87 participated in Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada and conducted strikes against Syrian positions in Lebanon. Transitioning to the F/A-18A Hornet on 24 October 1986, the squadron was redesignated VFA-87 and joined CVW-8 aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt. During Desert Storm, the Golden Warriors flew 629 sorties over 43 days of intense combat. In 1999, VFA-87 made history by fighting in two theaters during a single deployment — dropping 430,000 pounds of ordnance in 595 combat missions over Kosovo during Operation Allied Force, then shifting to the Persian Gulf for Operation Southern Watch. The squadron continues to serve today flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet from NAS Oceana.
