The squadron made numerous Western Pacific deployments, including multiple Vietnam combat cruises conducting strike operations from carriers on Yankee Station. The Royal Maces compiled an impressive combat record in Southeast Asia, delivering ordnance against targets in North and South Vietnam while maintaining high sortie rates. The squadron later became VFA-27 and transitioned to the F/A-18 Hornet, continuing the Royal Maces tradition as part of the forward-deployed naval forces in Japan.
