Attack Squadron 165 (VA-165), the “Boomers,” was a distinguished U.S. Navy carrier-based attack squadron that operated the Grumman A-6 Intruder. The Boomers’ name perfectly described their mission: delivering heavy ordnance on target with the thunderous impact that only the A-6’s massive weapons payload could produce. With the ability to carry up to 18,000 pounds of ordnance, the Intruder was the Navy’s heavy hitter, and VA-165 used every pound of that capability.
