Description

**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-145 Swordsmen Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**

VA-145 Swordsmen — 41 years on active duty, from Korea to Desert Storm. Their pilot Dieter Dengler made one of the most daring POW escapes in history.

VA-145, the “Swordsmen,” was established as Reserve squadron VA-702 on December 1, 1949, and called to active duty in July 1950 for the Korean War. Redesignated VA-145 in 1953, the squadron flew AD Skyraiders, A-1 Skyraiders, A-6 Intruders, and served 41 continuous years. On August 5, 1964, VA-145 participated in Operation Pierce Arrow — the retaliatory strikes following the Gulf of Tonkin incident — where Lt(jg) Richard C. Sather became the first naval aviator killed in the Vietnam War. In February 1966, Lt(jg) Dieter Dengler was shot down, captured in Laos, and made a legendary escape from a Pathet Lao prison camp, earning the Navy Cross. During Desert Storm in 1991, the Swordsmen flew 621 combat sorties from USS Ranger. VA-145 was disestablished in October 1993.
