The 1st Force Service Support Group (1st FSSG) Headquarters and Service Battalion was the command, administrative, and direct support element of the 1st FSSG, the logistics component of I Marine Expeditionary Force. The 1st FSSG — later redesignated as 1st Marine Logistics Group (1st MLG) — provided the full range of combat service support to I MEF, including supply, maintenance, transportation, medical, dental, engineering, and landing support operations.

The Headquarters and Service Battalion was the organizational heart of the 1st FSSG, providing the command element, communications, security, administrative services, and direct support that enabled the group to coordinate logistics operations across an expeditionary theater. Every bean, bullet, and bandage that reached the Marines of I MEF flowed through the 1st FSSG’s logistical network, and the HQ & Service Battalion was the nerve center that made it all work.
