Strike Fighter Squadron 122 (VFA-122), the Flying Eagles, is the U.S. Navy’s West Coast Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler, based at NAS Lemoore, California. VFA-122 is responsible for training all newly designated strike fighter pilots and weapons systems officers before they join operational fleet squadrons. The Flying Eagles’ training pipeline is the backbone of West Coast carrier air wing readiness — without VFA-122 producing qualified Rhino and Growler crews, the fleet cannot generate combat-ready air wings. Their instructors are among the most experienced tactical aviators in the Navy.
