Joe’s Jokers — VMF-115’s fighter squadron identity from the early days.
VMF-115 “Joe’s Jokers” was a Marine fighter squadron whose nickname reflected the personality of an early commanding officer. VMF-115 flew F4U Corsairs in combat during World War II and the Korean War, providing air superiority and close air support for Marine ground forces. The Jokers’ lineage eventually evolved into VMFA-115 “Silver Eagles,” which operates the F/A-18 Hornet today.
