Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (VMM-163), the Ridge Runners, carries forward the lineage of HMM-163 Evil Eyes into the MV-22 Osprey era. The transition from the CH-46 Sea Knight to the revolutionary MV-22B Osprey gave VMM-163 unprecedented speed, range, and payload capacity for assault support operations. The Ridge Runners name reflects the squadron’s new identity in the tiltrotor community while honoring the legacy of the Evil Eyes that came before. VMM-163 conducts assault transport, aerial refueling, and logistics missions as part of Marine expeditionary operations, bringing the Osprey’s unique capabilities to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force.
