Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-153 Blue Tail Flies Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-153 Blue Tail Flies — the squadron where one XO racked up 625 combat missions in Vietnam. That’s not a typo. Six hundred twenty-five.
VA-153, the “Blue Tail Flies,” began as Naval Air Reserve Fighter Squadron VF-831, called to active duty in February 1951. Redesignated VF-153 in 1953 and finally VA-153 in December 1956, the Blue Tail Flies flew A-4 Skyhawks and A-7 Corsair IIs from Pacific Fleet carriers. The squadron deployed to Korea aboard USS Antietam, flew during both Taiwan Strait Crises (1955 and 1958), and made multiple Vietnam combat cruises from USS Coral Sea and USS Oriskany. VA-153 participated in Operations Flaming Dart, Rolling Thunder, and Barrel Roll. The squadron’s CO was killed in action over North Vietnam in August 1965. In November 1970, the Blue Tail Flies flew support for the Son Tay POW rescue attempt. CDR D. R. Weichman set the Navy record with 625 combat missions — the most by any Navy fixed-wing pilot in Vietnam. VA-153 was disestablished on September 30, 1977.
