Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-35 Black Panthers Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-35 Black Panthers — the Navy’s oldest attack squadron. Sixty years of continuous service. From fabric-covered biplanes on USS Ranger to A-6 Intruders over Baghdad. They sank Japanese carriers at Midway and dropped the first bombs on Iraq in Desert Storm.
VA-35 was established as Bombing Squadron VB-3B at NAS Norfolk on July 1, 1934, initially flying Great Lakes BG-1 biplanes from USS Ranger — the only ship-based squadron to deploy with that aircraft. In April 1942, VB-3 provided escort patrols for the Doolittle Raid launched from USS Hornet, and at the Battle of Midway in June 1942, the squadron’s SBD Dauntless dive bombers sank the Japanese carriers Sōryū and Hiryū — earning 17 Navy Crosses in a single day. The Black Panthers saw action at Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Korea, and flew four Vietnam combat deployments including the first aerial mining operations since WWII in February 1967. In 1980, VA-35 became the first operational A-6 squadron to deploy with the TRAM (Target Recognition Attack Multisensor) system. During Desert Storm in 1991, flying from USS Saratoga, VA-35 was the first Navy squadron to bomb Iraqi targets and logged nearly 400 strike sorties. The squadron was disestablished on January 31, 1995, having operated 19 different aircraft types from 29 carriers.
