Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 49 (HSL-49) Scorpions was a U.S. Navy helicopter squadron based at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California. The Scorpions operated the SH-60B Seahawk and later transitioned to the MH-60R as part of the broader HSM community realignment. HSL-49 deployed detachments aboard surface combatants throughout the Pacific Fleet, conducting anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, and maritime surveillance operations across the vast waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Each small detachment operated independently from the deck of a destroyer, cruiser, or frigate, embodying the Navy’s expeditionary helicopter capability.
