The 254th Medical Detachment (Helicopter Ambulance) conducted medevac operations during the Vietnam War alongside the 283rd Medical Detachment. Flying UH-1 Hueys into hostile landing zones, the 254th’s Dust Off crews evacuated wounded soldiers under fire throughout the theater. This patch preserves the identity of one of Vietnam’s dedicated air ambulance detachments.
