HMHT-401 was a Marine heavy helicopter training squadron responsible for training CH-53 pilots, crew chiefs, and aerial observers for fleet deployment. The training squadron served as the Fleet Replacement Squadron for the CH-53 community, taking newly designated aviators through the CH-53 training syllabus and producing combat-ready heavy helicopter crews. Every CH-53 pilot who flew fleet operations passed through the heavy helicopter training pipeline.
