The Sharkfins — VMCJ-3’s electronic warfare and reconnaissance identity.

VMCJ-3 “Sharkfins” was a Marine composite reconnaissance squadron that, like its sister VMCJ squadrons, combined photo reconnaissance and electronic warfare into a single unit. The Sharkfins flew RF-4B Phantoms and EA-6A Electric Intruders, providing the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing with organic reconnaissance and electronic warfare capability. The VMCJ squadrons were eventually reorganized, with their electronic warfare mission migrating to VMAQ squadrons flying the EA-6B Prowler and their photo reconnaissance mission absorbed into other units.
