The Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight — the “Phrog” — was the Marine Corps’ primary medium-lift assault transport helicopter for over four decades. This pilot patch represents the aviators who sat in the cockpit of the tandem-rotor Sea Knight, flying Marines into and out of combat from Vietnam through the Global War on Terror. CH-46 pilots mastered one of the most demanding airframes in the Marine inventory — a helicopter that required hands-on flying skill and intimate knowledge of the aircraft’s systems and limitations. The Phrog was retired from Marine service in 2015, but its pilots remain legends in the rotary-wing community.
