HMLA-367 “Scarface” has been a pioneer in night-attack helicopter operations throughout its history. The squadron was the first to deploy the UH-1Y Yankee in combat during their 2009 Afghanistan deployment, simultaneously supporting seven infantry battalions and fighting in the battles of Marjah and Now Zad under NVG conditions in Helmand Province. Scarface was also the first squadron to operate both the four-blade UH-1Y and AH-1Z together with dedicated flight simulators for each platform.
